Keeping bottled water safe

Today, plastic bottles are a problem that is being evaluated by society with negative impacts on the environment, even on users' health. Therefore, many people question which type of bottled water is better and tastier.

Bottled water is defined as water that is bottled and intended for human consumption. There are several types of bottled water, depending on the type of water provided and the source of the water. Some bottled water is carbonated and is called carbonated water. This water has a "fizz" usually created by carbon dioxide gas.
Drinking bottled water is also commonly used to replace tap water. Water has different levels of dissolved minerals, the mineral content expressed as total dissolved solids (TDS) in the water. Bottled water sold as mineral water usually has a TDS content.
Distilled or demineralized water has been treated to remove nearly all of the minerals that are naturally present in the water, giving it a bland taste. Natural water is not modified by adding or subtracting minerals. Groundwater will contain dissolved minerals as the water moves through soil and rock materials. Natural or mineral bottled water are the types commonly used to replace tap water.

Bottled water can come from a variety of sources, including groundwater from a well, water from a protected spring, or water from a public water supply. Groundwater comes from an aquifer, an underground region of saturated sand, gravel, or rock that produces a significant amount of water.

Bottled water is water intended for human consumption and is sealed in bottles or other containers with no added ingredients.
Well water: This water is drawn from a tap well that holds water from layers of porous rock, sand, and soil containing pressurized water from the surrounding upper layers of rock or clay. Mineral water: Mineral water comes from an underground source and contains at least 250 parts per million total dissolved solids. In mineral water contains minerals and especially trace elements. Spring water: Derived from the underground formation from which water flows naturally to the surface, this water is collected only at springs or through a bore through an underground supply system. Well water: This is water that, from a borehole or drilled into the ground, flows into an aquifer. Bottled water can be used as an ingredient in beverages, such as diluted juices or flavored bottled water. However, beverages labeled as containing “carbonated water”, “filtered water”, “tonic water” are not included as regulated bottled water. Instead, these beverages are considered soft drinks.

Bottled water standards require manufacturers to manufacture, handle and transport bottled water under sanitary conditions and use processes that ensure the safety of the water. This means that bottled water is safe to drink.
Research indicates that most bottled water contains microplastics, which can be hazardous to health. The researchers found that 93% of the bottles had some sign of microplastic contamination, and they contained twice the amount found in tap water.
Microplastics appear to be in the same class of endocrine disrupting chemicals as obesogens, which affect metabolism, reproduction, oxidative stress and several other factors in humans, animals or the sea. Also, people with weakened immune systems should take special precautions with their drinking water, choosing bottled water that the manufacturers have treated to protect against the Cryptosporidium parasite.
