1. What is childhood neuroblastoma?

2. Statistics on neuroblastoma in young children

About 800 children are diagnosed with neuroblastoma each year in the United States. Neuroblastoma accounts for about 6% of all childhood cancers in the United States, and up to 90% of all neuroblastoma cases are found in children younger than 5 years of age.
Among the most common cancers in children, neuroblastoma ranks 3rd, and is the most common cancer in children under the age of 1 to 2 years. However, neuroblastoma is quite rare in children over 10 years of age.

About two-thirds of children with neuroblastoma are diagnosed after there have been lymph node metastases or metastases to other parts of the body.
