Uses of Vacocal-D

Vacocal-D is a prescription drug, used in cases of hypocalcaemia, dietary calcium deficiency, supplementation during periods when calcium may be required such as pregnancy, lactation and growth.

1.1. What is Vacocal-D? Vacocal-D belongs to the group of modern medicines, with registration number VD-17628-12, manufactured by Vacopharm Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company - Vietnam.
Vacocal-D drug includes the following ingredients:
Calcium gluconate content 500mg. Vitamin D3 200UI. Excipients: Lactose, Tapioca starch, Magnesium stearate, Polyvinyl pyrrolidone, Talc powder, Sodium starch glycolate, Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, Titanium dioxide, Brilliant blue, Ethanol 96%. The drug is prepared in the form of film-coated tablets, packed in the form of 10 tablets, 1 blister, box of 10 blisters. In addition, there are also bottles of 60, 100, 200, 500 and 1000.
Vacocal-D is recommended for use in adults and children but requires a doctor's prescription.
1.2. What diseases does Vacocal-D treat? Ingredients Calcium gluconate is used to treat chronic hypocalcaemia and calcium deficiency. Ingredients Vitamin D3 (colecalciferol) has the effect of preventing or treating rickets. Vacocal-D is prescribed for use in the following cases:
Hypocalcaemia. Diet low in calcium. Calcium supplementation during the period: Growth, pregnant women, lactation, the elderly. Hyperkalemia, blood magnesium. Contraindications:
Contraindicated to use Vacocal-D in the following cases:
Patients who are allergic to the main ingredient Calcium gluconate, Vitamin D3 or any of the excipients of the drug Vacocal-D. Vitamin D toxicity. Ventricular fibrillation in cardiac resuscitation, heart disease and kidney disease. Hypercalcemia, bone-destroying malignancies, severe urinary calcium, and immobility-induced osteoporosis. Patient is taking digitalis (because of the risk of digitalis toxicity).

2.1. How to take Vacocal-D Vacocal-D is taken orally. Take Vacocal-D with a sufficient amount of filtered water. The patient takes the drug every 1 to 1 hour 30 minutes after a meal. When taking Vacocal-D, pay attention not to crush, chew, or break the tablet. Do not mix Vacocal-D with any other mixture. 2.2. Dosage of the drug Vacocal-D Adults: 1 tablet / time, 2-3 times a day. Children: Follow the instructions of the Physician. Treatment when missed dose:
Need to take Vacocal-D as soon as you remember, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue taking the medicine as usual, do not take up the next dose. Treatment of overdose:
The first sign and symptom of vitamin D toxicity is hypercalcemia. Blood calcium levels exceeding 2.6 mmol/liter (10.5 mg/100 ml) are considered hypercalcemia. Manifestations: Weakness, fatigue, drowsiness, headache, loss of appetite, dry mouth, metallic taste, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, tinnitus, rash, muscle pain , bone pain and irritability. Treatment:
Rehydration by intravenous infusion of sodium chloride 0.9%. Monitor blood potassium and magnesium levels and blood pressure early to prevent complications in treatment. Treatment of vitamin D3 toxicity: Discontinue the drug, stop taking calcium supplements, maintain a low-calcium diet, drink plenty of water or give fluids. If necessary, administer corticosteroids or calcium-reducing diuretics such as furosemide and ethacrynic acid to reduce serum calcium levels. If acute vitamin D poisoning, just taken: Conduct vomiting or gastric lavage. If the drug has passed through the stomach, treatment with mineral oil can promote the elimination of vitamin D in the stool.

Respiratory failure or acidosis, hypercalcaemia may occur when renal function decreases. Therefore, it is necessary to regularly check blood calcium, avoid metabolic acidosis (only use 2-3 days, then switch to other calcium salts). People with sarcoidosis or hypoparathyroidism (which can increase sensitivity to vitamin D), impaired kidney function, heart disease, kidney stones and atherosclerosis should be cautious when taking Vacocal-D. Pregnant and nursing women should consult their doctor before taking Vacocal-D.

At therapeutic doses, Vacocal-D is well tolerated. However, during the use of Vacocal-D, patients may still experience side effects such as: hypotension (dizziness), peripheral vasodilation, constipation, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, skin redness , rash, pain or heat at injection site, burning sensation, flushing, feeling warm, hot, sweating, arrhythmia, acute cardiac dysfunction, fatigue, somnolence, headache, loss of appetite , dry mouth, metallic taste, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness and irritability.
If experiencing these symptoms, the patient should stop using Vacocal-D and notify the doctor for appropriate treatment.

Vacocal-D may have an interaction reaction if used concurrently with: Thiazides, ciprofloxacin, clopamide, chlorthalidone, anticonvulsants, doxycycline, metacycline, demeclocyclin, minocyclin, oxytetracycline, enoxacin, fleroxacin, tetracycline, levofloxacin, lomefloxacin, norfloxacin, pefloxacin, ofloxacin, iron, zinc, digitalis glycosides, phenytoin, glucocorticoids, phosphates, sodium sulfate, calcitonin, furosemide, cholestyramine, magnesium, estrogen, corticosteroids, thiazide diuretics, phenobarbital and/or phenytoin.
To avoid interactions, before being prescribed Vacocal-D, patients should inform their doctors about the drugs they are using, including functional foods. The doctor will base on that to prescribe the appropriate Vacocal-D.

Vacocal-D storage time is 36 months from the date of manufacture. Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C, in the original packaging and protected from light.
