Dear Doctor,
I recently underwent a colonoscopy and was diagnosed with a 2mm rectal polyp. Could you please advise whether a 2mm colorectal polyp is concerning? Thank you, doctor.

Dear Patient,
Regarding your question, "Is a 2mm colorectal polyp a clinical significance?", I would like to provide the explanation as following:
A colorectal polyp is a small cluster of cells that forms on the lining of the colon or rectum. Most colorectal polyps are benign; however, over time, some polyps may enlarge and potentially cause bleeding, intestinal obstruction, or even malignant transformation. Patients may develop one or multiple polyps, and they can occur to anyone.
However, a 2mm polyp is not considered dangerous and does not require immediate medical intervention or removal. Nevertheless, you should undergo routine colonoscopy once a year to monitor for any changes. If the polyp enlarges, it can be removed. Currently, polyp removal via endoscopic polypectomy is a simple and safe procedure, so there is no need for concern.
If you have further questions regarding 2mm colorectal polyps, you can visit a Vinmec Healthcare System hospital for evaluation and consultation. Thank you for trusting Vinmec. Wishing you good health.
Best regards!
