Question
Hello, Doctor. I would like to ask a few questions and hope you can help me with the answers. My menstrual period started on January 5 and ended on January 9. On the 14th, I had intercourse with my husband, and after two weeks, I went for a check-up and was informed that I was pregnant. On February 6, I went for another check-up, and the doctor said I was 4 weeks pregnant. However, since I only had intercourse on the 14th, how can the pregnancy be 4 weeks? I hope the doctor can clarify this for me soon. At that time, I had an ultrasound, and the gestational sac measured 0.77mm. Thank you very much.

Thank you for sending your question to the Vinmec Healthcare System.
When you had intercourse two weeks ago, the embryo was indeed two weeks old. However, the way doctors calculate gestational age before the embryo is visible is based on the first day of your last menstrual period. Therefore, being 4 weeks pregnant is correct. It is not advisable to calculate based on the date of intercourse, as this can lead to misunderstandings between couples. Wishing you happiness and good health.
