Question
Hello, Doctor. I frequently experience irregular periods, and recently, I haven’t had my period for nearly five months. Could you please explain the possible causes and suggest treatment options? I would greatly appreciate your advice. Thank you.

Answer
Hello,
There are two main reasons for a missed period: either you are pregnant, or you have a menstrual cycle disorder. Irregular menstruation can be caused by changes in living conditions, lifestyle habits, stress, diet, or hormonal imbalances.
A normal menstrual cycle lasts about 28-30 days, with possible variations of 3-5 days. The menstrual period typically lasts 3-5 days.
In your case, missing your period for five months is classified as oligomenorrhea (infrequent menstruation), where the interval between two periods extends to two, three, or even five months. Menstrual flow may also vary, sometimes heavy and sometimes light. This condition could be a symptom of an underlying health issue, such as hormonal imbalances, structural abnormalities in the reproductive organs, obesity, or excessive stress.
