Meiact antibiotic is prescribed to treat infections caused by sensitive bacterial strains such as otitis media and sinusitis. Currently, Meiact is available in two main forms: Meiact 200mg tablets and Meiact fine granules in sachets containing 50mg of cefditoren pivoxil.

1. What is Meiact Antibiotic?

Meiact is the brand name for cefditoren pivoxil, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic indicated for treating infections caused by sensitive bacteria such as:

  • Acute tonsillitis, pharyngitis
  • Acute maxillary sinusitis
  • Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
  • Mild to moderate community-acquired pneumonia
  • Folliculitis, impetigo, furuncles, and wound infections

2. Safe Usage of Meiact Antibiotics

2.1. For Meiact Fine Granules 50 mg

The medication is typically used for children with a standard oral dose of 3mg (active)/kg, three times daily, after meals. However, patients may use doses up to 6 mg (active)/kg if necessary, but not exceeding 600mg (active) per day. To use, dissolve the contents of one sachet corresponding to one dose in a small amount of water. Use the medication solution immediately after preparation.

2.2. For Meiact 200mg Tablets

Patients should swallow the tablet whole with an adequate amount of water and should take it with meals. The dosage depends on the severity of the infection, patient condition, and bacterial strain:

For patients over 12 years and adults:

  • Severe acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis: 200mg cefditoren every 12 hours for 5 days
  • Community-acquired pneumonia: for mild cases, 200mg cefditoren every 12 hours for 14 days; for moderate cases, 400mg cefditoren every 12 hours for 14 days
Patients should take medication as prescribed by the doctor.
