2. Dosage and Administration of Cefdinir 300mg

2.1 Dosage

Cefdinir belongs to the group of prescription drugs, so it must be used under a doctor’s prescription. The following dosage information is for reference only. Patients should not use the medication without a doctor’s recommendation. The recommended dosage for Cefdinir 300mg is as follows:

Pneumonia:

Adults and children over 13 years old: 300mg every 12 hours for 5–10 days (or 600mg every 24 hours for 10 days).

Acute Sinusitis:

  • Adults: 300mg every 12 hours or 600mg every 24 hours for 10 days;
  • Children 6 months – 12 years: 7mg/kg every 12 hours or 14mg/kg every 24 hours for 10 days (maximum dose of 600mg/day).

Uncomplicated Skin Structure Infections:

  • Adults: 300mg every 12 hours for 10 days;
  • Children 6 months – 12 years: 7mg/kg every 12 hours for 10 days (maximum dose of 600mg/day).

Tonsillitis, Pharyngitis:

Chronic Bronchitis:

Adults and children over 3 years old: 300mg every 12 hours for 5–10 days or 600mg every 24 hours for 10 days.

The dosage should be adjusted for patients with renal insufficiency: Specifically, adults with a creatinine clearance rate less than 30 mL/min should not exceed 300mg/day, while children with creatinine clearance less than 30mL/min should be given 7mg/kg every 24 hours.

2.2 Administration

Cefdinir is taken orally and can be taken with or without food (the dose may be taken once or divided into two doses every 12 hours). The dose is determined based on the clinical condition and response of the patient, with the recommended dosage being 600mg/day for adults.

To maintain efficacy, the drug should be taken at consistent intervals. Continue taking Cefdinir for the full prescribed course, even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Discontinuing the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue growing, which could result in a recurrence of the infection and increased risk of antibiotic resistance.

Like other broad-spectrum antibiotics, long-term use of Cefdinir can lead to the development of drug-resistant bacterial strains. Patients should be monitored carefully when necessary. If toxicity occurs during treatment with Cefdinir, appropriate supportive therapy should be provided.

  • Effects on Driving and Machine Operation: Cefdinir does not affect the ability to drive or operate machinery.
  • Pregnant and Breastfeeding Women: There are no specific studies determining the safety of Cefdinir in pregnant and breastfeeding women. Therefore, caution should be exercised when using Cefdinir in these groups.
