Uses of Colposeptine

Table of content

Colposeptine is a vaginal suppository containing Promestrine and Chlorquinaldol, used for treating vaginal white discharge caused by various factors, except gonococcal infection. Proper use as directed by a doctor or pharmacist enhances treatment effectiveness.

1. What is Colposeptine?

Colposeptine is formulated as a tablet with main ingredients including: Chlorquinaldol (INN) 200 mg, Promestriene (INN) 10 mg and other excipients such as: Cellulose, Lactose, Sodium lauryl sulfate, Magnesium stearate and Boric acid in sufficient quantity per tablet.

Chlorquinaldol is an antibiotic with surface antiseptic properties. It has strong bacteriostatic effects on both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Additionally, Chlorquinaldol in Colposeptine provides local anti-infective action in the vagina or gastrointestinal tract caused by parasites, fungi, mixed bacteria, and some other bacteria, except gonococcus.

Promestriene (3-propyl ethyl, 17B-methyl estradiol) has a composition similar to synthetic estrogen hormones. It acts on the vaginal mucosa, helping to restore and nourish the damaged epithelial layer by regenerating glycogen-rich surface cells in the vaginal epithelium. Glycogen serves as a substrate for lactic acid bacteria, which helps stabilize the vaginal pH and reduce the risk of reinfection by pathogenic agents.

Since Colposeptine is applied topically, it does not affect estrogen-sensitive organs such as the uterus, mammary glands, or pituitary gland.

2. What are the effects of Colposeptine?

Colposeptine is primarily used to effectively reduce vaginal discharge in the following cases, except those caused by gonococcus.

  • Bacterial vaginosis
  • Fungal vaginitis
  • Vaginal infections caused by mixed bacteria
  • Vaginitis caused by Trichomonas vaginalis

Colposeptine should not be used in the following cases:

  • Hypersensitivity to any component of Colposeptine.
  • History of allergy to medications containing Chlorquinaldol.
  • History of allergy to Colposeptine or other synthetic estrogen-containing drugs.
  • History of estrogen-dependent cancers, such as breast cancer, endometrial cancer.

3. Dosage and administration of Colposeptine

The recommended dosage for Colposeptine is one vaginal tablet per day for 18 consecutive days, including during menstruation.

Below are safe usage instructions:

  • Clean the intimate area with clean water and pat dry.
  • Soak the Colposeptine tablet in warm water for 10–15 seconds.
  • Wash hands thoroughly before handling the tablet.
  • Lie on your back, preferably with hips elevated for easier insertion.
  • Insert the tablet deep into the vagina, using a finger to push it in almost completely.
  • Rest in place and avoid movement to allow the tablet to remain in position.

Note: Colposeptine is effective only when inserted deep into the vagina. Caution is advised when using it in young girls or women who have never had sexual intercourse.

4. Precautions when using Colposeptine:

So far, no significant clinical side effects of Colposeptine have been reported. However, in rare cases, users may experience local skin irritation, pimples, discomfort, vaginal burning sensation etc. If any of these occur, consult a doctor for advice and appropriate management.

Since Colposeptine is a vaginal suppository with localized effects, it is minimally absorbed into the body. However, it is advisable to consult a gynecologist before using this medication.

Additionally, spermicidal contraceptives may have reduced or lost effectiveness when used simultaneously with Colposeptine.

Along with using Colposeptine correctly, at the right dose, and for the prescribed duration, women should also maintain a healthy diet, adequate rest,  regular physical activity to improve overall health as well as avoid stimulants such as drugs, alcohol and tobacco. Besides, women should keep a positive, relaxed mindset in both work and daily life.

It is important to maintain regular and proper hygiene of the intimate area, using soft, breathable underwear. If the condition of vaginal discharge becomes heavy and causes discomfort or poor hygiene, it is recommended to change underwear at least twice a day or more frequently as needed.

Above is the information about the composition, usage, side effects, and precautions when using Colposeptine. Carefully read the instructions on the Colposeptine packaging and follow the prescriptions of a gynecologist to achieve the best treatment results.
