1. What is Nucoxia 90mg?

Nucoxia 90 belongs to the group of pain relievers, antipyretics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and medications for treating gout and bone-joint diseases. The main ingredient of the drug is Etoricoxib 90mg, along with other excipients.  

Nucoxia 90 is formulated as film-coated tablets, packaged in 10 blisters x 10 tablets per box, and manufactured by Cadila Healthcare, Ltd - India.  

2. Indications for Using Nucoxia 90  

Nucoxia 90 is prescribed for the following conditions:  

  • Acute and chronic treatment of pain, swelling, and inflammation in bones, joints, and muscles.  
  • Ankylosing spondylitis.  
  • Treatment of acute gouty arthritis (gout).  
  • Acute and chronic pain relief.  
  • Primary dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps).  
  • Pain management for moderate post-dental surgery pain (short-term use).  
  • Respiratory tract infections, ear-nose-throat infections, urinary tract infections, urethritis in men, and infections of the skin and soft tissues.  

3. Dosage and Administration of Nucoxia 90  

Nucoxia 90 is administered orally.  

Recommended dosage:  

  • Osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease): 30mg Etoricoxib per day or a maximum of 60mg per day.  
  • Rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis: Maximum dose of 90mg Etoricoxib once daily.  
  • Post-dental surgery pain: Maximum of 90mg once daily, not exceeding 3 days of use.  
  • Acute gout attacks: A single dose of 120mg per day, with a maximum treatment duration of 8 days.  
  • Acute pain and primary dysmenorrhea: Maximum of 120mg per day, used for no more than 8 days.  
  • Elderly patients: No dose adjustment required.  
  • Liver impairment: Child-Pugh score 5-6: Do not exceed 60mg per day. Child-Pugh score 7-9: Reduce dosage to 60mg every 2 days or 30mg daily.  
  • Kidney impairment: No dose adjustment required.  
  • Children under 16 years: Not yet studied.  

4. Contraindications for Nucoxia 90  

Nucoxia 90 should not be used in the following cases:  

  • Allergy to Etoricoxib or any of the drug's ingredients.  
  • History of asthma, aspirin/NSAID-induced allergy, urticaria.  
  • Congestive heart failure.  
  • Uncontrolled hypertension with persistent blood pressure >140/90 mmHg.  
  • History of stroke, ischemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease.  
  • Severe liver disease (Child-Pugh score ≥10 or serum albumin <25g/L).  
  • Gastrointestinal bleeding or active peptic ulcer disease.  
  • Severe progressive kidney disease.  
  • Should not be combined with other NSAIDs.  

5. Side Effects of Nucoxia 90  

During the use of Nucoxia 90, some adverse reactions may occur, including:  

  • Reduced platelet count.  
  • Hypersensitivity reactions, anaphylaxis, anaphylactic shock.  
  • Increased blood potassium levels (hyperkalemia).  
  • Anxiety, insomnia, drowsiness, confusion, hallucinations, depression, restlessness.  
  • Taste disturbances.  
  • Blurred vision.  
  • Congestive heart failure, angina, palpitations, tachycardia.  
  • Hypertensive crises.  
  • Bronchospasm.  
  • Peptic ulcer, abdominal pain, oral ulceration, gastrointestinal perforation and bleeding, nausea, diarrhea.  
  • Hepatitis, increased liver enzymes (AST/ALT), jaundice.  
  • Angioedema, rash, itching, erythema, urticaria.  
  • Stevens-Johnson syndrome.  
  • Toxic epidermal necrolysis.  

6. Precautions When Using Nucoxia 90  

Nucoxia 90 should be used with caution in the following cases:  

  • Patients allergic to NSAIDs, aspirin, or COX-2 inhibitors.  
  • Current or history of peptic ulcers, Crohn’s disease, gastrointestinal bleeding.  
  • Severe liver disease.  
  • Dehydration due to vomiting or prolonged diarrhea.  
  • History of heart failure, heart disease, angina, coronary artery bypass surgery, peripheral artery disease, transient ischemic attack, or stroke.  
  • History of hypertension, as Nucoxia 90 can increase blood pressure.  
  • Patients undergoing infection treatment, as Etoricoxib may mask fever symptoms.  
  • Elderly patients.  
  • Patients with diabetes, high cholesterol, or smoking history, as these conditions increase cardiovascular risks when using Nucoxia 90.  
  • Severe kidney disease.  
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women.  
  • Children under 16 years old.  

7. Drug Interactions of Nucoxia 90  

Using Nucoxia 90 together with certain medications may lead to interactions, including:  

  • Warfarin (blood thinner/anticoagulant).  
  • Rifampicin (antibiotic).  
  • Methotrexate (used for rheumatoid arthritis and immune suppression).  
  • ACE inhibitors (Enalapril, Ramipril) and angiotensin receptor blockers (Losartan, Valsartan) for hypertension and heart failure.  
  • Lithium (used for depression treatment).  
  • Diuretics (water pills).  
  • Ciclosporin, Tacrolimus (immune system suppressants).  
  • Digoxin (for heart failure and arrhythmia).  
  • Minoxidil (for hypertension treatment).  
  • Salbutamol (for asthma treatment).  
  • Oral contraceptives.
