•    Alleviating severe pain when a strong opioid is needed.

2. Contraindications of Oxynorm 5mg

Oxynorm 5mg is contraindicated for:

•    Individuals allergic to Oxycodone, opioid drugs, or any ingredient in Oxynorm 5mg.
•    Individuals with respiratory failure, intestinal obstruction, head injury, acute abdomen syndrome, chronic respiratory obstruction, delayed gastric emptying, chronic bronchial asthma, pulmonary heart disease, moderate to severe liver failure, elevated carbon dioxide in the blood, severe renal failure (CrCl < 10mL/min), or chronic constipation.
•    Currently using MAO inhibitors or within 2 weeks after discontinuing MAO inhibitors.
•    Pregnant women.

3. Dosage and administration of Oxynorm 5mg

Method of use: Oxynorm 5mg is taken orally. The dosage will be prescribed according to the level of pain and the patient's history regarding pain relief requirements. The interval between doses of Oxynorm 5mg is 4 - 6 hours. Patients need to swallow the entire Oxynorm 5mg capsule. Do not chew, crush, or break as it may increase side effects when used.

Reference dosage:

•    For elderly individuals and adults over 18 who seldom use opioid drugs or have severe uncontrolled pain with mild opioids: The starting dose of Oxynorm is 5mg, taken every 4 - 6 hours. Then carefully and frequently adjust the Oxynorm 5mg dose once a day. If needed to achieve the desired pain relief effect, morphine should be taken orally before using Oxynorm 5mg. The daily dose of Oxynorm 5mg is based on the ratio of 10mg of Oxycodone hydrochloride equivalent to 20mg of morphine.
•    For adults with mild to moderate renal failure or mild liver failure and rarely use opioid drugs: Careful use of Oxynorm 5mg is required. The starting dose of Oxynorm is 2.5 mg, every 6 hours.
•    For patients under 18 years old: The use of Oxynorm 5mg is not recommended in this case.

•    History of substance or alcohol abuse;
•    Old age and frailty;
•    Hypothyroidism (reduce dosage);
•    Post-abdominal surgery (until intestinal function normalizes).
•    Breastfeeding women,
•    Intestinal obstruction.

7. Notes when using Oxynorm 5mg 

•    Do not use Oxynorm 5mg within 6 hours before surgical intervention. If continuing therapy with Oxynorm 5mg, the dosage should be adjusted according to postoperative requirements.  
•    Patients will be at risk of respiratory failure when using excessive amounts of Oxynorm 5mg.  
•    There is a potential for psychological drug dependence when using Oxynorm 5mg for an extended period.  
•    The ingredient Sunset Yellow in Oxynorm 5mg may cause allergic reactions such as asthma (common in patients who are allergic to aspirin).  
•    Abusing Oxynorm 5mg in oral formulation for injection can lead to serious consequences, including death.  
•    It is not advisable to drive or operate machinery after using Oxynorm 5mg.  
•    In case of forgetting a dose of Oxynorm 5mg, it should be taken as soon as possible. However, if it is close to the time for the next dose, the missed dose should be skipped and the new dose should be taken.  
•    When using an overdose of Oxynorm 5mg, patients need to stop the medication immediately and go to the nearest medical facility for timely treatment.  
•    Absolutely do not use Oxynorm 5mg if the medication shows signs of discoloration, mold, leakage, or has expired.
