Taromentin 1000mg is indicated for short-term treatment of upper and lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, and dental infections.

1. What is Taromentin 1000mg?

Taromentin 1000mg belongs to the group of antiparasitic, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral drugs. The medication contains the following components:

  • Amoxicillin 875 mg
  • Clavulanic acid 125 mg
  • Other active ingredients and excipients sufficient for the Taromentin 1000mg formulation

2. Indications for Using Taromentin 1000mg 

Taromentin 1000mg is indicated for short-term treatment in the following infections:

•    Upper respiratory tract infections such as tonsillitis, otitis media, and sinusitis that have been treated with conventional antibiotics but were ineffective
•    Lower respiratory tract infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing strains of H. influenzae and Branhamella catarrhalis: Acute and chronic bronchitis, pneumonia
•    Severe urinary tract infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing strains of E. coli, Enterobacter, and Klebsiella: Cystitis, pyelonephritis, urethritis
•    Skin and soft tissue infections: Infected wounds, boils, abscesses
•    Bone and joint infections: Osteomyelitis
•    Dental infections: Dental abscesses
•    Gynecological and intra-abdominal infections

3. Dosage and Usage of Taromentin 1000mg

The dosage of Taromentin 1000mg is based on the amount of Amoxicillin in the medication.

Adults and children aged ≥ 12 years:

•    Treatment of mild and moderate infections: Take 1 tablet (500mg Amoxicillin) every 12 hours.
•    Severe infections: Take 1 tablet (500mg Amoxicillin) every 8 hours.

Children aged 6 years and weighing < 25kg:

•    It is recommended to use the suspension or sachet form of Taromentin.

Taromentin 1000mg should be taken at the start of a meal to minimize gastrointestinal intolerance. The treatment duration with Taromentin 1000mg should not exceed 14 days without re-evaluation.

When overdosed on Taromentin 1000mg, the medication is well tolerated even at high doses, thus causing few adverse reactions. However, acute reactions depend on individual hypersensitivity, so it is essential to use the medication as prescribed.

4. Contraindications for Using Taromentin 1000mg

Taromentin 1000mg is contraindicated in the following cases:

•    Individuals who are hypersensitive to the Beta-lactam group such as Penicillin and Cephalosporin
•    Patients with a history of jaundice or liver dysfunction due to the use of Amoxicillin, Clavulanate, or other Penicillins

5. Drug interactions

•    Taromentin 1000mg may prolong bleeding time and prothrombin time. Therefore, caution should be exercised when used in patients undergoing anticoagulant therapy.
•    Taromentin may reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives.
•    Probenecid prolongs the excretion time of Amoxicillin.

6. Side Effects of Taromentin 1000mg

You may experience some of the following side effects when using Taromentin 1000mg:

•    Common: Diarrhea, rash, itching
•    Less common: Eosinophilia, nausea and vomiting, hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice, elevated transaminase levels
•    Rare: Anaphylactic shock, Quincke's edema, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, hemolytic anemia, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, pseudomembranous colitis, erythema multiforme, exfoliative dermatitis, epidermal necrolysis, interstitial nephritis
