3. Side Effects of Theralene 90ml
During the use of Theralene, some patients may experience side effects. If any of these occur, stop using the medication and seek medical advice immediately. Possible side effects include: Skin reactions (redness, eczema, purpura, hives). Angioedema (swelling of the face and neck, which may cause difficulty breathing). Anaphylactic shock. Severe reduction in white blood cells (agranulocytosis). Thrombocytopenia (low platelet count), which may cause nosebleeds or gum bleeding. Seizures.
These are not all possible side effects of Theralene. If any unusual symptoms appear while taking the medication, report them to your doctor immediately.
4. Drug Interactions
To ensure safety, Theralene 90ml should not be used with:
- Alcohol: It enhances the sedative effects of antihistamines, leading to reduced alertness and concentration, which can be dangerous when driving or operating machinery.
- Disulfiram-like drugs (e.g., cefamandole, cefoperazone, latamoxef, chloramphenicol, chlorpropamide, glibenclamide, glipizide, tolbutamide, griseofulvin, metronidazole, omidazole, secnidazole, tinidazole, ketoconazole, procarbazine): The alcohol content in Theralene (380 mg in 10 ml of syrup) can cause adverse reactions when combined with these drugs.
- Sultopride: Increased risk of ventricular arrhythmias, especially torsades de pointes, due to the drug’s effects on heart electrophysiology.
In certain cases, Theralene may be prescribed with other medications, but dosages must be carefully adjusted to avoid interactions:
- CNS depressants (sedative antidepressants, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, clonidine and its derivatives, hypnotics, morphine derivatives (painkillers and cough suppressants), methadone, antipsychotics, anxiolytics): Increased CNS depression, leading to drowsiness and impaired alertness, which is dangerous for drivers and machine operators.
- Atropine and atropine-like drugs (tricyclic antidepressants, anticholinergics, antispasmodics, disopyramide, phenothiazine antipsychotics): Increased risk of urinary retention, constipation, and dry mouth.
- Store Theralene at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Do not store in humid places or in the refrigerator. Keep it away from heat and open flames. Each medication has specific storage requirements, so always read the package instructions or ask a pharmacist for guidance. Keep Theralene out of reach of children and pets.
