Ho Chi Minh City – Vinmec Central Park International General Hospital successfully hosted the International Conference: Updates in Epilepsy Treatment with the participation of nearly 200 leading experts and physicians from Vietnam and abroad. The event was highlighted by the presence of Prof. Dr. Imad Michel Najm, a world-renowned epilepsy specialist from Cleveland Clinic – a top healthcare system in the U.S.

For the neurology community in Vietnam, the conference provided significant practical value: direct access to the latest international guidelines developed by Cleveland Clinic; updates on stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG), awake craniotomy, and other advanced techniques shaping global treatment trends; and an opportunity to review Vinmec’s epilepsy surgery program, enabling comparison, experience sharing, and standardization of treatment protocols. These insights provide Vietnamese physicians with information that may inform diagnostic and interventional approaches, as well as areas in research and training of global practices in epilepsy. According to Dr. Tran Hoang Ngoc Anh – Director of the Neurology Center, Vinmec Central Park:
“The integration of international expertise from Cleveland Clinic with Vinmec’s clinical practice provides a basis for developing long-term strategies for care in Vietnam.”

The conference also provided a comprehensive picture of epilepsy treatment in Vietnam – from diagnostic approaches to treatment challenges. Vinmec shared its initial outcomes after three years of implementing epilepsy surgery (2022–2025):
- Successful interventions in many complex cases, such as microsurgery for a patient with epilepsy caused by cavernous hemangioma accompanied by venous malformation.
- Combined use of EcoG (electrocorticography) and IONM (intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring) to map language and motor areas.
- Performing awake craniotomy to protect speech and motor functions.
- Recently, resection of epileptic foci in drug-resistant patients using advanced technology.
The Neurological Institute at Cleveland Clinic is recognized globally as a leader in epilepsy, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, movement disorders, and pediatric neurology. Leveraging strengths in minimally invasive surgery, advanced technology, and multidisciplinary care, Cleveland Clinic not only delivers comprehensive treatment solutions but also leads global research and clinical trials.
This conference provided an opportunity to share expertise with of Vietnam’s medical community and served as a point of international collaboration in the field of neurology. It forms part of Vinmec’s long-term strategy to build an academic health system based on three pillars: Clinical Care – Research – Education, aiming to become a leading regional medical center.
