Overview

The Laboratory Department of Vinmec Times City International General Hospital was established on January 7, 2012, and encompasses all specialized areas including: Biochemistry, Immunology, Hematology, Blood Transfusion, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, and Pathological Anatomy.

The Laboratory Department ensures it meets the testing needs of all customers. The quality of testing meets ISO 15189:2012 standards (2016–2022) and has been accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) since 2022.

Department location in the hospital: 1st Floor, Vinmec Times City International General Hospital.

3.1. Biochemistry Specialty:
Performs biochemical and immunological tests to support health check-ups, diagnosis, and monitoring of treatment for general and specialized medical conditions.
Conducts advanced tests in support of IVF, neonatal care, and organ transplantation.
3.2. Hematology – Blood Transfusion Specialty:
Performs basic hematology and coagulation tests such as: complete peripheral blood count, blood smear, basic coagulation tests (APTT, PT, TT, Fibrinogen), D-Dimer, ABO/Rh blood grouping, etc.
Conducts advanced hematological tests to diagnose hematologic diseases: bone marrow cytology, bone marrow biopsy, hemoglobin electrophoresis, and tests for diagnosing Antiphospholipid Syndrome, etc.
Carries out specialized tests in support of organ transplants and open-heart surgery: Rotem testing, platelet aggregation measurement, coagulation factor quantification, etc.
Handles the preservation, storage, and issuance of blood in accordance with the Ministry of Health’s blood transfusion safety regulations.
3.3. Microbiology Specialty:
Disease Diagnosis: Identifies bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites that cause infections.
Disease Treatment: Detects drug-resistant bacteria, fungi, and viruses to guide treatment and monitor its effectiveness.
Disease Prevention: Identifies infectious agents and hospital infection sources. Detects epidemic pathogens such as cholera, dengue fever, and influenza.
Disease Surveillance: Monitors infections and antimicrobial resistance of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites.
Research Opportunities: Analyzes and compiles statistics on pathogenic microorganisms, antibiotic resistance, and hospital-acquired infections.
3.4. Pathological Anatomy Specialty:
Performs cytological diagnostic tests including PAP smear, ThinPrep, fine-needle aspiration cytology, exfoliative cytology, and cellblock preparation.
Conducts histopathological diagnostic tests.
Performs intraoperative frozen section analysis.
Conducts immunohistochemistry using a modern automated staining system from Ventana, covering most markers for cancer diagnosis and treatment, including many new tests such as PD-L1, MSI, ALK-D5F3, etc.
Provides consultation on specimens sent from other facilities and participates in tumor board consultations to support diagnosis and treatment.

The complete blood count analyzer is connected to an automatic slide maker and the Vision Pro automatic slide reader, along with an automated blood grouping analyzer and a fully automated erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) analyzer.

Other equipment includes the EUROBlot One, Phadia 250, µTaswako I30, and Maglumi 800 analyzers.

Additionally, there are Maldi-TOF mass spectrometry systems, automated real-time PCR machines, and fully automated Cobas real-time PCR systems.
