Question:
Hello Doctor,
On September 20, I had an ultrasound and was confirmed to be pregnant, with the size of the gestational sac being 8mm. On the second ultrasound, which was on October 3, the result showed the gestational sac size to be 18mm, and the pregnancy was 5 weeks and 4 days. The edges of the amniotic sac were uniformly stretched, but no embryo or yolk sac could be seen. The trophoblast is thickened with no signs of bleeding or fluid accumulation around the sac, and there is nothing abnormal around the uterus. Could you please tell me if the absence of the embryo and yolk sac at 5 weeks means anything? Thank you, Doctor.

Hello,
Regarding your question "At 5 weeks pregnant, there is no embryo yet, what does it mean if the yolk sac is not visible?", the doctor would like to answer as follows:
Based on the information you provided, two weeks after the gestational sac measured 8mm in the uterus, no embryo or fetal heartbeat has been detected. This is a concerning sign for the pregnancy. To obtain an accurate diagnosis, you should visit a reputable obstetrics center for a check-up and further consultation.
If you have any more questions about the 5-week pregnancy without an embryo or yolk sac, you can visit a hospital under the Vinmec Healthcare System for additional tests and advice. Thank you for trusting and sending your question to Vinmec. Wishing you good health.
Sincerely!
