Inquiry
Good morning, doctor,
Dear Doctor, three weeks ago, I underwent an appendectomy and experienced no pain initially. However, today, I started having abdominal pain that sometimes occurs above the navel and sometimes below it (around the umbilical region), accompanied by pain during urination. I want to ask if it is expected to experience abdominal pain and dysuria after an appendectomy. Thank you so much.

Dear Huong, thanks for sending your inquiry,
"Is abdominal pain with dysuria after appendectomy a warning sign for an illness?"
Abdominal pain with dysuria following an appendectomy (these days, laparoscopic appendectomy is the most popular method) may indicate a potential issue. For instance, such pain might result from intestinal adhesions, particularly in the right iliac fossa, where the appendix is located. On the other hand, abdominal pain with dysuria can happen if the appendix is in the later inflammation stage, leading to the spread of pus within the abdominal cavity. The symptoms you describe may also be related to various intestinal conditions, such as colitis, enteritis, or other gastrointestinal disorders.
If you continue to experience these symptoms or have further questions, we encourage you to visit a Vinmec Health System facility for a comprehensive evaluation and consultation. Thank you for choosing Vinmec, and we hope you are in good health.
Sincerely.
