A white, cloudy penile discharge is a warning signal for many dangerous medical conditions. Thus, such a discharge means men ought to be very cautious and seek early medical examination to prevent the possible complications and impacts on reproductive health. 

1.Symptoms of White Cloudy Penile Discharge with pus

The penis is an important body part for a male; it plays a role in maintaining the sexual life of a couple, urination, reproduction, and so on. When men come across some abnormal signs such as white penile discharge, they need to pay special attention to that.

 Penile discharge of white pus are often accompanied by signs like:

  •  Pus discharge from the urethral opening in the morning: On waking up, there could be a discharge of yellowish or whitish mucus-like material at the urethral opening. This pus discharge may come from the kidneys, bladder, ureters, prostate, or urethra. The pus may be thick or thin, depending on the cause; it may be white and cloudy, white and clear, or yellow.
  • Penile redness and pus discharge:Penile pus discharge is often accompanied by swelling, redness and red small swollen spots on the genitals. Some cases where the redness occurs without pain, whereas some present painful symptoms;

 Penile pain: When they see pus around the foreskin, men can experience other symptoms such as penile pain. Potential causes are bacterial invasion of the urethral opening, testicular cysts, prostate problems, etc.

 Painful urination: It is a common accompanying symptom of penile pus discharge. Patients feel burning sensations at the urethral opening, pain during urination and ejaculation, lower abdominal pain, and so on.

 Frequent urination: Genital tract infections can cause frequent urination with small urine volumes.

 2.What Causes White, Cloudy Penile Discharge?  

Potential causes of penile discharge include:

 2.1. Candida Fungal Infection  

Candida usually thrives in moist body parts like the mouth, esophagus, genitals,... Symptoms may include: White or yellowish pus penile discharge, burning while urinating, Itching and redness at the glans, pain during sexual intercourse or ejaculation.

 2.2. Chlamydia  

This disease is caused by a bacterium, Chlamydia Trachomatis. It is predominantly high-risk sexually transmitted diseases. The incubation period from acquiring the infection is between 1-3 weeks. The symptoms include:

 White pus discharge from penis in the early morning.

Foul-smelling discharge

Lower abdominal pain that radiates to the back and groin

Testicular pain, painful urination

 2.3. Gonorrhea  

The cause of white cloudy penile discharge may be gonorrhea, caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Gonorrhea can lead to the following complications: testicular infection, seminal vesicle inflammation, pancreatic infection...

 Gonorrhea progresses through two phases: acute and chronic. Symptoms alter with the phase. Usual symptoms of gonorrhea in men include pus discharge from the penis, high fever, pain while having sex or ejaculation, and painful urination with pus...

2.4. Balanitis  

Balanitis (foreskin Inflammation) is a common male condition which is mainly caused by bad hygiene. Symptoms of balanitis include: foreskin ulceration, itching, swelling, small spots on the foreskin, white cloudy, foul-smelling foreskin pus... If balanitis is not treated early it can cause major complications including necrosis, large area ulceration or even cancer.

 2.5 Urinary Tract Infection  

Urinary Tract Infection is a common male condition which, if not treated early, could bring complications like, urethritis, inflammation of the bladder and kidneys.

 Common symptoms of urinary tract infections include frequent urination, painful urination, mild fever, back pain,... The disease has probably reached its advanced stage with even more unpredictable complications when the penile discharge becomes foul-smelling.

 2.6. Smegma  

Smegma is a collection of whitish secretions under the foreskin in uncircumcised men. It is not penile pus discharge but can be mistaken for it.

 Smegga is a normal, harmless secretion that lubricates and keeps the area moist. It also collects sebaceous glands, dead cells, and urine if not cleaned regularly. When accumulated, this creates a conducive environment for the growth of bacteria or fungus, which may cause penile inflammation.

 2.7. Prostatitis  

Symptoms of prostatitis include:

 White, cloudy penile discharge

Foul-smelling urine or even blood in urine

Hard to urinate, weak urine flow

Ejaculatory difficulty

Pain during ejaculation

 When acute prostatitis occurs, early treatment will be very effective and lead to quick recovery. In the case of chronic prostatitis, symptom management treatment may extend over several months.
