Hello,
Regarding the question "Does dying hair after childbirth affect breast milk?", the doctor responds as follows:
Chemicals used for hair treatments (bleaching, dyeing, perming, and straightening) can be absorbed in small amounts through the scalp and into the bloodstream. Currently, there are no studies confirming that hair dye chemicals can affect breast milk. However, the smell of these chemicals may affect the baby if they contain ammonia or hydrogen peroxide. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid hair straightening/dyeing products that contain these substances.

Advice:
You should avoid using hair chemicals for at least the first 3 months after childbirth. Instead of using chemicals, consider temporary heat-based straightening or perming. Make sure to perform hair treatments in a well-ventilated area.
Use herbal-based products. Do not leave chemicals on the scalp longer than the recommended time. Rinse the scalp and hair thoroughly after treatment. Wear gloves if you are using chemicals on your hair.
Read the product instructions carefully before use. Do not dye your eyelashes or eyebrows, as this may cause chemicals to enter the eyes and increase the risk of eye infections. If you still have concerns about how hair dyeing after childbirth might affect breast milk, you can visit a healthcare facility within the Vinmec Healthcare System for consultation and early treatment.
Thank you for trusting and sending your question to Vinmec. Wishing you good health.
Best regards!
