Question
Hello Doctor,
I am 25 weeks pregnant, and my baby moves a lot in the uterus and lower abdomen. Is it dangerous for the fetus to move frequently at 25 weeks? Will frequent fetal movements affect the cervix in any way? I look forward to your advice. Thank you, doctor.

Hello,
Regarding your question, "Is it dangerous for a 25-week fetus to move frequently?", I would like to provide the following explanation:
Counting fetal movements daily is a biological indicator that helps expecting mothers monitor baby's health. A fetus has a natural sleep-wake cycle: they tend to be more active at night and less so during the day.
However, babies tend to move more when the mother is hungry, consumes stimulants, or is in a noisy environment. Increased fetal movement may cause discomfort or abdominal pain for the mother, but it does not lead to cervical changes or preterm labor. If you do not have a history of preterm birth and have undergone a cervical length assessment via transvaginal ultrasound between 18-22 weeks, with no abnormalities detected, then there is no need for concern.
A healthy baby moves at least 8-10 times within 2 hours. If your baby is highly active, you can try resting, avoiding noisy environments, refraining from stimulants like tea and coffee, or having a light snack or some milk if you're hungry.
If you still have concerns about your baby's frequent movements at 25 weeks, you can visit a hospital in the Vinmec Healthcare System for examination and additional consultation.Thank you for trusting Vinmec with your question. Wishing you good health!
Best regards!
