Is a systolic blood pressure of 133/135 and a diastolic blood pressure of 85/87 high?

Hello Doctor,

I measured my blood pressure and found that my systolic pressure is 133/135 and my diastolic pressure is 85/87. Could you please tell me if these readings are considered high? Or is it pre-hypertension as I age? Thank you, Doctor.

Hello,

Regarding your question, "Is a systolic blood pressure of 133/135 and a diastolic blood pressure of 85/87 high?" the doctor responds as follows:

Your blood pressure readings of 133/135 systolic and 85/87 diastolic can sometimes be considered normal and sometimes fall into the category of high-normal, also known as prehypertension. People with prehypertension are at risk of developing hypertension as they age. It is recommended that you visit a healthcare provider to determine if there are any underlying causes for your elevated blood pressure.

Additionally, you should consider making lifestyle changes to minimize the risk of high blood pressure. A diet suitable for hypertensive patients includes reducing sodium intake, consuming foods rich in calcium, potassium, and magnesium, avoiding smoking and alcohol, and managing stress and anxiety. These adjustments can help stabilize blood pressure effectively. Maintaining a healthy weight within safe targets and exercising regularly can also help reduce the risk of hypertension.

If you have any further questions about your systolic blood pressure of 133/135, you can visit a Vinmec Healthcare System hospital for further examination and consultation. Thank you for trusting and sending your question to Vinmec.

Sincerely yours!
