Does taking vitamin C and contraceptives on the same day have any effects?

Question

Hello pharmacist,

My girlfriend takes vitamin C daily in the morning and uses daily contraceptives in the evening. Pharmacist, can you tell me if taking vitamin C and contraceptives on the same day has any effects? Thank you!

Answered by Ms. Võ Thị Thúy Kiều, MPharm - Pharmacy Manager - Department of Pharmacy - Vinmec Da Nang International General Hospital.

Hello,

Regarding the question "Does taking vitamin C and contraceptives on the same day have any effects?", the pharmacist answers as follows:

If taking high doses of vitamin C (from 1000mg/day), it should be taken at least 4 hours before or after taking contraceptives.

If vitamin C is taken in the morning and daily contraceptives in the evening, it does not affect the effectiveness of the daily contraceptives. Note that it should be taken at the same time each day to increase contraceptive effectiveness.

Be aware of some abnormal signs: prolonged menstruation, light bleeding between periods.

If you have any further questions about vitamin C and contraceptives, you can take your girlfriend to a hospital in the Vinmec Health System for further examination and consultation. Thank you for trusting and sending your question to Vinmec. Wishing you good health.

Sincerely!
