  • Treatment of chronic hepatitis B: Take 1 tablet (300mg) once daily. The duration of treatment depends on the patient's response to therapy. Patients should not stop taking the medication without a doctor's instructions.

3. Side Effects of Tenofovir 300mg

  • Effects on the skeletal system: The combination of Tenofovir, Lamivudine, and Efavirenz in HIV-infected patients has shown a decrease in bone mineral density in the lumbar spine, an increase in parathyroid hormone levels in serum, and an increase in the levels of four biochemical markers related to bone metabolism. Therefore, HIV-infected patients with a history of fractures or high osteoporosis risk should be closely monitored. Although the effectiveness of supplementing Vitamin D and Calcium in these individuals has not been proven, they may provide benefits.
  • For pregnant women: No studies have proven the safety and efficacy of Tenofovir 300mg in pregnant women. Therefore, the use of Tenofovir for treatment in these individuals is contraindicated.
  • For breastfeeding women: There is no research demonstrating the excretion of Tenofovir 300mg in breast milk. Therefore, Tenofovir should not be used in breastfeeding women.

5. Drug interactions

Tenofovir 300mg interacts with drugs that are excreted through the kidneys or affected by kidney function, such as Cidofovir, Acyclovir, Valacyclovir, Ganciclovir, Valganciclovir, etc., potentially increasing the plasma concentration of these drugs and raising the risk of side effects.

Tenofovir 300mg has a pharmacodynamic interaction or synergistic interaction with HIV protease inhibitors such as Atazanavir, Amprenavir, Ritonavir, Indinavir, and Saquinavir.
Tenofovir 300mg also has a pharmacodynamic interaction or synergistic interaction with reverse transcriptase inhibitors like Didanosine, Abacavir, Lamivudine, Emtricitabine, Zalcitabine, Stavudine, and Zidovudine.

Oral contraceptives containing Norgestimate and Estradiol interact pharmacokinetically with Tenofovir 300mg.
