Uses of Vigadexa

Table of content

The drug Vigadexa belongs to the group of medications used for treating the eyes, ears, nose, and throat. So, what are the effects of Vigadexa and how is it used?

1. What is Vigadexa?

Vigadexa contains two active ingredients: Moxifloxacin hydrochloride and Dexamethasone, with concentrations of 5mg and 1mg per 1ml of solution, respectively. The medication is formulated as a sterile eye drop solution and is packaged in a box containing a 5ml bottle.

2. Effects of Vigadexa

2.1. Indications for Vigadexa

Vigadexa is indicated for the following cases: use Vigadexa to prevent inflammation and infection after eye surgery, and to treat eye infections.

2.2. Contraindications for Vigadexa

Vigadexa is contraindicated in the following cases:

Patients who are hypersensitive to any component of the medication, including the active ingredients Moxifloxacin, Dexamethasone, other quinolones, or any excipients in Vigadexa.

Patients with keratitis caused by the Herpes simplex virus, chickenpox, cowpox, or other viral infections of the cornea or conjunctiva. Tuberculosis infections of the eye, fungal infections of ocular structures, glaucoma, or conditions causing thinning of the sclera or cornea.

3. How to Use and Dosage of Vigadexa

3.1. How to Use Vigadexa

Advise the patient to gently close their eyes or press on the tear duct to limit the absorption of Vigadexa, which helps to reduce systemic side effects. If the patient is using more than one type of eye drop, they should wait at least 5 minutes between each medication. If using an eye ointment, it should be applied last.

When using Vigadexa, avoid letting the dropper tip of the bottle touch the eye or any other surface to prevent contamination. Do not touch the dropper tip with your hands, and ensure the bottle cap is tightly closed after use.

3.2. Dosage of Vigadexa

The dosage of Vigadexa depends on the patient's condition. Some recommended dosages are as follows:

For patients with eye infections: use 1 drop, 4 times a day for 7 days.

To prevent inflammation and infection after eye surgery: use 1 drop in the operated eye, 4 times a day. Patients should start using it 1 day before surgery and continue for 15 days after surgery (for patients undergoing LASIK surgery, use the medication approximately 15 minutes after surgery; for cataract surgery, Vigadexa can be used immediately after surgery).

3.3. Handling Overdose

If the patient accidentally applies too much Vigadexa, it is recommended to rinse with warm water immediately. Do not use additional medication until the time of the next scheduled dose.

4. Adverse Effects of Vigadexa

When using Vigadexa, patients may experience side effects such as: tearing, reduced vision, conjunctivitis, keratitis, dry eye, eye discomfort, subconjunctival hemorrhage, hyperemia, discomfort, cough, fever, runny nose, sore throat, pharyngitis, rhinitis, and otitis media.

Prolonged use of Vigadexa containing the active ingredient Dexamethasone can lead to increased intraocular pressure, glaucoma with optic nerve damage, reduced visual field and vision, and cataract formation. Patients are advised to regularly and periodically check their intraocular pressure. This is particularly important for individuals at risk, such as those with diabetes and children.

Fungal infections can also occur if Vigadexa is used for an extended period. If any adverse effects are experienced, patients should immediately inform their doctor for timely and effective management.

5. Drug Interactions of Vigadexa

Concurrent use of topical NSAIDs increases the risk of complications with corneal wound healing.

The blood concentration of the active ingredient Dexamethasone phosphate increases when Vigadexa is used together with Ritonavir.

6. Precautions When Using Vigadexa

Vigadexa is to be used only as an eye drop solution, not for injection.

At the first sign of tendonitis or any allergic reaction to Moxifloxacin, treatment with Vigadexa should be discontinued immediately.

During the use of Vigadexa for treating eye infections, contact lenses should not be worn until all symptoms have resolved. Do not use with other eye drops unless prescribed by a doctor.

Patients should be warned that Vigadexa may cause temporary blurred vision or visual disturbances, which could affect the ability to drive or operate machinery or perform tasks requiring concentration.

The safety and efficacy of Vigadexa in pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children have not been studied or proven. Vigadexa should not be used in these populations unless the therapeutic benefits significantly outweigh the potential risks, and all uses must follow a doctor's prescription.

7. Storage of Vigadexa

It is important to follow the principles of medication storage: keep the medication in a dry place, avoid direct sunlight, maintain an optimal temperature below 30°C, and keep it out of the reach of children.

The Vigadexa bottle should be discarded 30 days after opening.

We hope that this information on Vigadexa helps users understand how to use it and the correct dosage to achieve the best treatment results.
