Vinmec Healthcare System and Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM) have officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the goal of improving healthcare quality and contributing to enhancing professional capacity, as well as developing a high-quality healthcare workforce for the nation.

Joining Forces to Build a Modern and Globally Integrated Healthcare Ecosystem

The cooperation agreement between Vinmec and VNU-HCM marks an important step forward in creating a connected ecosystem between healthcare, education, and research. This is a key element in Vinmec’s long-term strategy to establish an internationally standardized training–research–clinical ecosystem in Vietnam, with VNU-HCM being one of the first institutions to sign such a partnership with Vinmec.

Moreover, modern healthcare cannot be separated from education and science–technology. Therefore, the integration of clinical practice, applied research, and multidisciplinary training will lay the foundation for new breakthroughs in public healthcare.

“In the overall development of the world, the healthcare and medical sector will undergo a strong shift toward an integrated model that combines medicine with other sciences such as artificial intelligence (AI) and big data, in order to create joint scientific products with high applicability that assist doctors in examination and treatment. The collaboration between a healthcare institution and an educational institution is a pivotal step in building and developing an innovation ecosystem for both parties,” shared Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Dung, MD – General Director of Vinmec Healthcare System, on the current trends in healthcare development.

With the advantage of being a healthcare system that operates hospitals and clinics across the country, Vinmec is able to conduct large-scale scientific research—something that few medical institutions can achieve. At the same time, Vinmec’s extensive international collaboration network provides an ideal practical environment to turn training and research initiatives from VNU-HCM’s leading experts, lecturers, and scientists into reality.

Through this partnership, Vinmec and VNU-HCM aim to build an innovation ecosystem in healthcare—not only to train a new generation of highly skilled doctors, but also to develop scientists with innovative, multidisciplinary thinking who are agile in applying and advancing technology. By joining forces, both sides are contributing to advancing Vietnamese medicine into a new phase, rapidly integrating with the global medical community.

Collaborating to Develop a High-Quality Workforce for Vietnam’s Healthcare Sector

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Hai Quan – President of VNU-HCM – affirmed: “To create humane values for society, institutions must cooperate sincerely and have a clear strategy. Both VNU-HCM and Vinmec possess their own resources and strengths. If both sides share and effectively leverage these resources through long-term cooperation, it will maximize each party’s advantages and make a significant contribution to the overall development of the nation’s healthcare sector.”

The two parties will jointly build a comprehensive development ecosystem focusing on key priorities to enhance professional capacity and develop a high-quality next-generation workforce for Vietnam’s healthcare sector. Vinmec and VNU-HCM will work together to design training programs and compile academic materials tailored to the practical conditions of both hospitals and universities. At the same time, Vinmec will assign lecturers and experts to directly participate in teaching and guiding clinical practice for students. VNU-HCM students will have the opportunity to study and gain hands-on experience at Vinmec’s internationally accredited healthcare facilities through internship and practicum programs. This will serve as an important stepping stone to developing a well-rounded healthcare workforce—professionals who are not only highly competent but also well-versed in clinical practice and ready for global integration.

In terms of scientific research, the two sides will discuss and collaborate on projects with high practical applicability, especially those applying modern technologies such as AI and Big Data in medicine. In addition, Vinmec and VNU-HCM aim to develop joint research groups that leverage each side’s strengths to improve the effectiveness of diagnosis, treatment, and healthcare services.
