Guide for International Patients Before Visiting Vinmec

Thank you for choosing Vinmec International Hospital for your healthcare journey. The following information is intended to help make your experience at Vinmec as smooth, comfortable, and efficient as possible. Please review the information carefully prior to your arrival.  

Where to Find MTS: Vinmec Medical Tourism Services (MTS) team is available to assist international patients with appointment coordination, interpreter services, medical records support, accommodation assistance, transportation arrangements, and general guidance throughout the treatment journey. 

  • Please plan to arrive at the hospital at least 15–30 minutes prior to your first scheduled appointment for registration and coordination. If interpreter support has been arranged, your interpreter will meet you at the agreed meeting location or registration area.
  • MTS operating hours may vary depending on the hospital location and appointment schedule. Your coordinator will provide detailed arrival instructions prior to your visit. 

Medical Records: Please bring all relevant medical records related to the condition for which you are seeking care, preferably translated into English where available.  

Testing: Certain diagnostic tests, imaging studies, laboratory tests, procedures, or specialist consultations may require specific preparation instructions, including fasting, medication adjustments, hydration requirements, or other pre-appointment preparations. Your Medical Tourism Supervisor or medical team will provide any necessary instructions prior to your appointment. Please carefully follow all preparation requirements to help avoid delays, inaccurate results, or rescheduling services.

Medications: Unless instructed otherwise by your physician, continue taking your regular medications prior to your appointment. 
Please bring: 

  • A list of your current medications
  • Original prescription information where available
  • A sufficient supply of medications for the expected duration of your stay in Vietnam.  

When Carrying Medication(s) While Traveling

You have to declare to customs authorities if carrying: 

  • Narcotic drugs
  • Psychotropic substances
  • Drug precursors used for medical purposes

Carry only the permitted quantities under Vietnamese regulations: 

  • Narcotic drugs: less than a 7-day supply
  • Psychotropic drugs/precursors: less than a 10-day supply
  • Compliance helps you avoid legal issues and ensures a smooth journey.

Financial Arrangements: Financial clearance, insurance verification, guarantee of payment (GOP), deposit, or payment arrangements may be required prior to receiving medical services.

If you have international insurance coverage, please provide: 

  • Insurance card copy
  • Guarantee of payment documents (if available)
  • Relevant authorization or referral documents
  • Please note that insurance verification does not guarantee full coverage of all medical services.

If transportation or accommodation assistance is needed, please provide your:

  • Flight details
  • Arrival date/time
  • Accommodation preferences
  • Number of accompanying family members or companions 

Your coordinator will assist in arranging suitable options based on your treatment location and schedule. 

Allergies & Hygiene: Please inform your doctor or nurse immediately if you have any allergies (including medications, food, or environmental allergies), and kindly follow hospital hygiene and infection prevention guidelines, including hand hygiene and mask use where recommended, to help ensure a safe environment for all patients and visitors. 

Preparing to Return Home: Before departure, patients may request: 

  • Medical reports
  • Discharge summaries
  • Imaging CDs/ digital imaging
  • Follow-up instructions
  • Medical record release forms
  • Telemedicine follow-up coordination
  • Please note that preparation of certain medical records or imaging files may require additional processing time.

Finance Questions After You Return Home: 

Vinmec may continue to support continuity of care after discharge through:

  • Telemedicine consultations
  • Follow-up coordination
  • Medical report sharing
  • Communication with local physicians where authorized by the patient 

Patients are encouraged to carefully follow discharge instructions, medication guidance, and follow-up recommendations after returning home.
