Question
Hello Doctor!
I had hemorrhoid surgery one week ago. When I go to the bathroom, I feel like I can't push, and the stool just comes out on its own, so I always feel like there's some left. After my first bowel movement, I have to go again 15 minutes later, and I have to go at least three times every morning before it's all out. The stool is soft and about 2 cm in diameter. Can you tell me if having fecal incontinence one week after hemorrhoid surgery is dangerous? Will this symptom resolve on its own?
I look forward to your advice. Thank you, Doctor!

Hello,
In response to your question, “Is having fecal incontinence one week after hemorrhoid surgery dangerous?” the doctor would like to address the following:
Fecal incontinence is a complication that can occur after hemorrhoid surgery. In most cases, when the surgical area around the anus stabilizes, the issue of fecal incontinence improves and may resolve on its own.
In your case, you should monitor your condition for an additional 6-8 weeks after the surgery. If the symptoms do not improve, you should seek a check-up for further treatment options.
If you have any further questions about fecal incontinence one week after hemorrhoid surgery, you can visit a hospital within the Vinmec Healthcare System for examination and additional consultation. Thank you for your trust and for sending your question to Vinmec. Wishing you good health.
Best regards!
