Could delayed menstruation with increased white vaginal discharge indicate an infection?

Question:

Hello Doctor,
Today marks the fifth day of my delayed menstruation. Since my cycles are irregular, I’m unsure if I might be pregnant. Recently, I’ve been feeling tired, eating more, and have been experiencing a lot of thick, white vaginal discharge. Could this indicate an infection?

Answer:

Dear,
Delayed menstruation can be a sign of an irregular menstrual cycle, which is quite common among women. Many factors can contribute to a delayed menstrual cycle, including pregnancy or issues related to the health of your reproductive organs and overall body health. However, if you are experiencing a significant amount of vaginal discharge along with a delayed menstrual cycle, it is advisable to see a reputable obstetrician for a proper diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
