Thien Tam Fund sponsors 50 billion VND for charitable medical care

To demonstrate solidarity, express gratitude to people with meritorious service to the country, and support underprivileged individuals without access to healthcare, the Thien Tam Fund and Vinmec International General Hospital decided to launch a large-scale charitable medical program.

From January to June 2012, the Thien Tam Fund sponsored 50 billion VND to provide free medical care for children and elderly people from poor families or with particularly difficult circumstances nationwide, families of martyrs, war invalids, veterans, former youth volunteers, and individuals with contributions to the revolution at Vinmec International General Hospital.

The program includes two main groups of activities. The first group focuses on general health examinations and free medical check-ups. This includes health screenings for students at selected primary schools in Hanoi to assess overall health, with special attention to common school-age conditions, eye refractive errors, spinal deformities, and ear–nose–throat issues. Additionally, the program offers medical examinations, hematology and biochemistry tests, and imaging diagnostics for elderly patients to assess overall health and screen for common age-related conditions such as dyslipidemia, diabetes, and gout. This free medical examination program was carried out in phases from mid-January to the end of March 2012.

The second group of activities includes free surgical procedures, such as pediatric and adult heart surgery; cleft lip and palate surgery; eye surgery (intraocular lens replacement) for elderly patients; orthopedic surgery (limb lengthening, muscle contracture correction, clubfoot, joint replacement, spinal surgery, etc.); simple thyroid tumor surgery; and several other surgical packages. This program was implemented in two phases: screening from mid-January to the end of March 2012, and surgical procedures from April to June 2012. All examinations, tests, and surgeries were conducted directly at Vinmec International General Hospital (Minh Khai – Hanoi) by highly skilled physicians. Patients received consultations, treatment, and care according to Vinmec’s international 5-star standards.

To ensure transparency and proper targeting of beneficiaries, the Thien Tam Fund coordinated with media agencies and charitable organizations to implement the program. The Fund also publicly shared all program information through mass media channels.

Mr. Bui Dinh Dinh, Chairman of the Thien Tam Fund, shared: “Following the directive of Vingroup’s leadership, the Thien Tam Fund collaborates with Vinmec International General Hospital to provide free medical care for the poor and policy-beneficiaries, demonstrating community responsibility, gratitude, and solidarity of Vingroup with those who contributed to the nation and those who have limited access to healthcare.

Additionally, this initiative supports the "Month of the Poor" and the "Extending the Circle of Care" campaign launched by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee. We selected Vinmec International General Hospital for its high-end medical services, international-standard facilities, and team of national and international medical experts. This ensures the program is executed at the highest quality, offering beneficiaries a premium healthcare experience.

This is the first time the Thien Tam Fund has implemented such a program, so we hope for the support of government authorities, humanitarian organizations, and media to help identify and monitor deserving beneficiaries. Based on the effectiveness of this first initiative, we will draw lessons and continue future programs.”

Mr. Nguyen Viet Quang, representative of Vinmec International General Hospital, affirmed: “This program is a meaningful activity for the hospital, officially launched in early January 2012. With the 50 billion VND sponsorship from the Thien Tam Fund, we are able to carry out humanitarian medical activities.

With internationally standardized 5-star facilities, a team of highly skilled and ethical medical professionals, we are committed to providing special medical care for selected policy beneficiaries, without any discrimination.

All of this demonstrates that Vinmec is not only a leading high-quality, 5-star international healthcare system in Vietnam but also maintains a strong sense of social responsibility, contributing to the country’s social welfare policies.”
