Macromax is a medicine belonging to the group of antibacterial, antiparasitic drugs. Macromax is prepared and manufactured in the form of hard capsules and packaged in boxes of 1 blister x 6 tablets.
Macromax medicine has the main ingredient Azithromycin 250mg and some other excipients such as Talc powder, Nath starch glyconate, Magnesium stearate, purified water, Polyvinylpyrrolidon (PVP), Lactose, wheat starch, Nath laurylsulfate sufficient for 1 hard capsule.
2. What is the use of Macromax?
What is the use of Macromax? Macromax 250 is indicated for the treatment of patients in the following cases:
• Treatment of patients with infections caused by bacteria sensitive to the drug such as lower respiratory tract infections including bronchitis, and pneumonia. Treatment of skin and soft tissue infections, otitis media. Upper respiratory tract infections such as Sinusitis, pharyngitis and tonsillitis.
• Macromax is indicated for patients who are allergic to Penicillin, due to the risk of drug resistance.
• Azithromycin is indicated for the treatment of sexually transmitted diseases in both men and women such as:
• Treatment of uncomplicated genital tract infections caused by Chlamydia trachomatis.
• Treatment of uncomplicated genital tract infections caused by non-multiresistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae (after excluding concomitant Treponema pallidum infection).
• Apply Macromax to prevent Mycobacterium avium - intracellulare (MAC) infection in HIV-infected patients alone or combination with Rifabutin.
• Macromax is indicated for the treatment of people with conjunctivitis caused by Chlamydia trachomatis, also known as trachoma.
3. Dosage and how to use Macromax
3.1. How to use the drug
• Macromax is prepared in the form of hard capsules, taken orally, in tablets. Patients take the whole tablet with a glass of purified water or boiled water that has been cooled.
• Patients can take the drug 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals.
3.2. Dosage
The dosage of Macromax depends on each subject and the progression of each disease, there will be an appropriate dose of Macromax. Below is the dosage of Macromax 250 that patients can refer to as follows:
For adults:
• Treatment of pharyngitis and tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogens: On the first day, use the drug at a single dose of 500mg Macromax/day, then from the 2nd to the 5th day, use the drug at a dose of 250mg Macromax/day, taken once a day. The total dose of this drug in the treatment process is 1.5g Macromax.
• Treatment of acute sinusitis caused by H.influenzae, M.catarrhalis or S.pneumoniae: The dose is 500mg Macromax/day, taken once a day, for 3 days.
• Treatment of acute superinfection in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) caused by H.influenzae, M.catarrhalis or S.pneumoniae: On the first day, use the drug at a single dose of 500mg Macromax/day, then from the 2nd to the 5th day, use the drug at a dose of 250mg Macromax/day, taken once a day. During the treatment of this disease, the total dose is 1.5g Macromax.
• Treatment of mild to moderate community-acquired pneumonia caused by susceptible strains of S.pneumoniae, H.influenzae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae or Chlamydophila pneumoniae: On the first day, use the drug at a single dose of 500mg Macromax/day, then from the 2nd to the 5th day, use the drug at a dose of 250mg Macromax/day, taken once a day. During the treatment of this disease, the total dose is 1.5g Macromax.
• Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections caused by susceptible bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, S.pyrogens or S.agalactiae: On the first day, use the drug at a single dose of 500mg Macromax/day, then from the 2nd to the 5th day, use the drug at a dose of 250mg Macromax/day, taken once a day. The total dose for this treatment is 1.5g Macromax.
• Treatment of chancroid (genital ulcers caused by Haemophilus ducreyi): Use the drug at a single dose of 1g Macromax.
• Treatment of urinary tract infections and cervicitis caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae or Chlamydia trachomatis: Use the drug at a single dose of 1g Macromax.
• Treatment of MAC (Mycobacterium avium) infection in HIV-infected patients: Primary prevention: The dose is 1.2g Macromax, taken once a week. Can be used alone or in combination with Rifabutin 300mg/day. Treatment of disseminated MAC infection: The dose is 600mg/day, taken once a day, combined with Ethambutol 15mg/kg/day. Prevention of recurrence of disseminated MAC infection: The dose is 500mg/day, taken once a day, combined with Ethambutol 15mg/kg/day with or without Rifabutin 300mg x 1 time/day.
• Treatment of MAC infection (Mycobacterium avium) in HIV-negative patients (lung infection): The dose is 250mg/day or 500mg Macromax/week, divided into 3 doses per week. Take in combination with Rifabutin 300mg/day or Rifambin 600mg/day and Ethambutol 25mg/kg/day for 2 months, then 15mg/kg/day.
For children:
• Use Macromax on the first day with a dose of 10mg Macromax/kg. Next, from the 2nd to the 5th day, use a dose of 5mg Macromax/kg per day, taken once a day.
4. Contraindications of Macromax
Macromax should not be used for patients who are hypersensitive or have a history of allergy to Azithromycin, Erythromycin or any antibiotic in the Macrolid group, or to any ingredient of the drug.
5. Side effects of Macromax
During the use of Macromax 250, patients may experience some of the following unwanted side effects:
Common:
• Digestive disorders such as: Nausea, abdominal discomfort, abdominal pain, abdominal cramps, vomiting, flatulence, diarrhea.
Uncommon:
• Fatigue, headache, dizziness, drowsiness.
• Flatulence, indigestion, loss of appetite, and diarrhea.
• Rash, itching.
Rare:
• Vaginitis, cervicitis.
• Anaphylactic reactions.
• Angioedema.
• Reversible hearing loss.
• Transient increase in liver enzymes.
• Temporary changes in the number of neutrophils.
Patients who experience any unwanted side effects should immediately notify their doctor or pharmacist for timely treatment to avoid adverse effects on their health.
6. Precautions when using Macromax
• Serious hypersensitivity reactions, including angioedema, anaphylaxis, and skin reactions, are known to rarely occur in patients taking Azithromycin.
• Caution should be exercised when using Macromax for patients with impaired liver function because Azithromycin is mainly excreted through the liver.
• Although there is little data on the use of Azithromycin for patients with renal failure, patients should still use Macromax with caution for patients with a glomerular filtration rate below 10 ml/min.
• There have been rare reports of prolongation of cardiac repolarization time and QT interval with the risk of arrhythmia and torsades de pointes with Macrolides. Therefore, the possibility of the above effects of Azithromycin cannot be completely excluded in patients at risk of prolonged cardiac repolarization.
• Patients should only use Macromax to treat and prevent infections that have been confirmed or suspected of being caused by susceptible bacteria. To limit the development of drug-resistant bacteria, maintain the effectiveness of Azithromycin and other antibacterial drugs during treatment.
• Macromax should not be used for pregnant women, only when necessary and under the guidance of a doctor or pharmacist. Because there are no adequate and controlled studies on the use of azithromycin for pregnant women.
• Use Macromax with caution for women who are breastfeeding, because the ingredient Azithromycin in the drug is found in breast milk
• There is no evidence that the ingredient Azithromycin in the drug affects the ability to drive or operate machinery when using the drug for treatment.
