On the eve of the New Year 2025, the first clients of Olea Fertility at Vinmec Nha Trang International General Hospital (Khanh Hoa) welcomed their first baby boy after a challenging journey with in vitro fertilization (IVF).

This milestone marks a significant advancement in IVF services, affirming Vinmec Nha Trang’s capabilities and position in the field of reproductive support and maternal care.

A challenging journey to parenthood and pregnancy

After a year of marriage without conceiving, Mr. Võ Văn Nho and Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ha Uyen (Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa) sought medical advice and were recommended by a major hospital in Ho Chi Minh City to undergo IVF treatment.

However, the procedure required them to commit at least 1.5 to 2 months to treatment, which posed a considerable challenge for couples like Mr. Nho and Mrs. Uyên who would have to travel far from home for medical care.

After some research, they decided to begin their IVF journey with Olea Fertility at Vinmec Nha Trang — right in their hometown. In the early days, Mrs. Uyen carried a lot of worries and even shed tears many times due to the pressure. Under the meticulous care of Dr. Ho Thi Thanh Tam, PhD — Head of Olea Unit, Vinmec Nha Trang — she underwent IVF treatment using intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF-ICSI) and had all embryos cryopreserved.

Dr. Ho Thi Thanh Tam presented flowers to congratulate Mr. Nho and Mrs. Uyên’s family when the beta HCG results confirmed the joyful news of pregnancy.

Although there were moments of discouragement, with the support of her family and the dedication of her doctors, Mrs. Ha Uyen persevered and achieved a beta HCG result confirming pregnancy. To ensure the health of both mother and baby progressed well and to minimize complications, she was closely monitored through regular check-ups by Vinmec’s specialist team.

However, at weeks 13 and 14 of pregnancy, she experienced severe morning sickness. To prevent maternal exhaustion that could lead to miscarriage, doctors advised her to be hospitalized for observation and prescribed safe, appropriate medications to stabilize the pregnancy and significantly reduce nausea.

At weeks 35 and 36, Mrs. Ha Uyen contracted a flu-like fever—a common concern for expectant mothers. Thanks to strict monitoring and detailed knowledge of her condition by the medical team, she overcame this without difficulty.

The challenges, however, were not over. In the early hours of December 25, she was admitted to the hospital due to amniotic fluid leakage. Examination revealed green-colored amniotic fluid, indicating a risk of fetal distress if not promptly addressed. The Vinmec medical team quickly decided to perform a cesarean section, successfully preventing serious complications for both mother and child.

In fact, green amniotic fluid occurs when the fetus passes meconium into the amniotic sac, signaling acute fetal distress during labor and posing a high risk of asphyxia or even death at birth. With decisive action and high professional expertise, the Vinmec Nha Trang team safely delivered a healthy baby boy weighing over 3 kg.
