4. Dosage and administration of Rupatadine

5. Side effects of Rupatadine

•    Less common side effects: Pharyngitis, cough, dry throat, epistaxis, nasal dryness, sore throat, attention disturbances, diarrhea, gastrointestinal disturbances, nausea, vomiting, constipation, arthralgia, back pain, myalgia, thirst, irritability, weight gain, elevated creatine phosphokinase in blood, abnormal liver function tests.
•    Rare side effects: Tachycardia, palpitations, and hypersensitivity reactions (including anaphylaxis, angioedema, and urticaria).

6. Precautions when using Rupatadine

•    Rupatadine should be used with caution in patients with known prolonged QT intervals, patients with uncorrected hypokalemia, and those with persistent arrhythmias, such as clinically significant bradycardia and acute myocardial ischemia.
•    Caution is also advised in elderly patients (aged 65 years and older).
•    Pregnant women: Currently, there is limited data on the use of Rupatadine in pregnant women. Animal studies have not shown direct or indirect harm to pregnancy, fetal development, delivery, or postnatal development. Nonetheless, it is advisable to avoid the use of the drug during pregnancy.
•    Breastfeeding women: It is not known whether Rupatadine is excreted in breast milk. Studies indicate that Rupatadine is secreted in milk in animals. The benefits of breastfeeding should be weighed against the benefits of the medication to the nursing mother.
•    Caution when driving or operating machinery: At the recommended dosage, Rupatadine does not affect the ability to drive or operate machinery. However, patients should monitor their response to the medication before engaging in such activities.
