Can gastritis cause tingling in the limbs and an increased heart rate?

Question

Hello, Doctor! I have symptoms of sharp pain in my left chest, occasionally experiencing a stabbing pain with a rapid heartbeat that lasts about 3-5 seconds, accompanied by tingling in both arms and legs, usually occurring in the evening. During the day, I feel a sensation of tightness in my throat, mild dizziness, and sometimes a dull pain in my abdomen. I visited the hospital, and the doctor diagnosed me with gastroduodenitis and gastroesophageal reflux disease. I would like to ask if gastritis can cause tingling in the limbs and an increased heart rate. Thank you very much, Doctor.

Answer

Hello, in response to your question, “Can gastritis cause tingling in the limbs and an increased heart rate?”:

Gastritis can cause transient tingling in the limbs and a temporary increase in heart rate. Once treated, these symptoms should resolve. Sharp chest pain is a common symptom that can arise from the heart, lungs, or musculoskeletal issues. At your age, it is rare to have any significant heart or lung conditions unless you have congenital heart disease (a condition present from birth).

If the symptoms are transient and resolve on their own, there is no need to worry. However, if they cause you discomfort, affect your daily life, or particularly worsen with exertion, you should visit a cardiology specialist at the nearest medical facility.

You can seek consultation at hospitals within the Vinmec Healthcare System for a thorough examination and advice from specialists. Thank you for sending your question to Vinmec.

Best regards!
