Vingroup Signs cooperation deal with University of Pennsylvania (USA) to build the first Cardiology and Oncology Center of Excellence in Vietnam
On July 17th, Vingroup and Vinmec healthcare system have signed the cooperation deal with University of Pennsylvania (PENN- Top 8 national universities in the US) to develop Vinmec Cardiology and Oncology specialties into Centers of Excellence (COE). These are the first COE models in Vietnam, which are deployed on the world’s leading professors and specialists’ leading as well as participating.
By 2021-2022, Vinmec Cadiology and Oncology centers are becoming the first two (Centers of Excellence) COE nationwide.
Center of Excellence – COE is global high quality standards for healthcare towards comprehensive and integrated treatment model, where the breakthrough and effective treatment solutions take place. As our goals of approaching and operating early under advanced medical standards, Vinmec decided to cooperate with PENN to build COEs, in which Cardiology and Oncology are the first two key specialties.
As agreed, within five years from 2019 to 2024, Vinmec Cardiology and Oncology COE will be built with comprehensive developments of medical profession, scientific researches, human resources and operation according to the highest standards worldwide applied in the US, with PENN’s support. In particular, from 2019 to 2020, Vinmec will develop breast cancer and heart failure units; followed by the development of other subspecialties such as lung cancer, liver cancer, colorectal cancer, coronary artery disease ... It is expected that by 2021-2022, Vinmec is going to meet COE standards on Cardiology and Oncology according to the criteria of prestigious organizations in the world and expand to develop COEs in other fields.
To implement this agreement, specialists, doctors, nurses assigned by PENN will work on-site regularly and rotationally in Vinmec. Professors and doctors from PENN will not only be responsible for Vinmec Cardiology and Oncology specialties’ professional expertise, but also help develop strategies and action plans, advanced clinical services, provide oversight over treatment plan deployment and service quality improvement during cooperating period. In addition, PENN is going to run training programs, strengthen practical skills of subclinical specialties such as Diagnostic Imaging department, specialized histopathology of breast and lung cancer, as well as coronary artery pathology...

Prof. Glen Gaulton, Vice Dean and Director of the Center for Global Health, University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, stated at the signing ceremony: “In our search for cooperating preparation, Vinmec’s current successes and willingness to change for spectacular clinical service quality, and creating a breakthrough healthcare orientation, had made powerful and perfect impressions on us. Vinmec is our first and only hospital partner in Vietnam to build COEs. I believe this partnership will contribute to the outstanding changes in cancer and cardiological pathology treatment at Vinmec, creating positive effects on Vietnamese health.”
Cooperating with PENN means Vinmec medical team may collaborate with the world leading professionals and experts; update recent diagnostic and treatment methods as well as state-of-the-art healthcare trends, to keep up with advanced healthcare systems all over the world. For the first time in Vietnam, Vinmec is able to learn from nearly 300-year-operating- experiences of PENN, especially experiences on medical administration, specialized regimens, scientific data, scientific research organizing/ managing system, as well as take part in international medical organizations.
Center of Excellence – COE is global medical standards, which evaluates hospitals based on their professional capacity, operating mechanism, facilities, support system, international cooperation, etc. COE’s comprehensive and integrated treatment model not only provides top quality healthcare services but also takes the leads in up-to-date treatment method application, which helps develop effective and breakthrough treatment methods. At present, COE model is being applied in the US, Europe and many developed countries such as Australia and Japan ...
