The Phu Quoc Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Center serves as the central coordination and response hub for all emergency cases across Phu Quoc Island. It is implemented under the framework of the National Pre-hospital Emergency Care Development Project.
The Center is responsible for triage, consultation, and dispatching ambulances and medical personnel to emergency scenes in the shortest possible time — a crucial function given the island’s elongated terrain and the many remote areas located far from medical facilities.
This is the first public–private emergency coordination model in Vietnam, jointly implemented through close collaboration between public health authorities and private healthcare providers:
- An Giang Department of Health: Provides strategic direction, professional supervision, approval of implementation plans, and integration of the EMS system with the local healthcare network.
- Vingroup & Vinmec Phu Quoc: As the pioneering private healthcare entities participating in the national initiative, they are responsible for operating the 115 dispatch center and conducting EMS training programs.
- Public and private healthcare facilities on the island: Collaborate by sharing human resources, vehicles, and data to ensure the system operates in a coordinated and unified manner.
The emergency response team consists of one driver, one nurse, and one pre-hospital emergency physician.
Details:
- Pre-hospital emergency physician: Must hold at least a general practitioner degree with a valid medical practice license.
- Nurse: Must hold a college or bachelor’s degree in nursing and have a minimum of two years’ experience working in emergency or intensive care units at hospitals.
- Ambulance driver: Must hold a Class D driver’s license, be familiar with the geography of Phu Quoc, and be trained and certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid.
Operation hours: 24/24 (Including Saturday, Sunday, public holidays / Tet)
